Critic Without Clue – Fashola

The appointment of Babatunde  Fashola as the minister of Power, Works and Housing in 2015 November 11 was greeted with wide spread jubilation as many saw it to be a break of a new dawn in the power sector which have been said to be in need of emergency.

Recent developments have shown that the solution to the power sector is a millennia away as he recently showed full time abdication of responsibility.

The Minister shocked millions of Nigerians while speaking at the Nextier Power Dialogue on Wednesday 12th December 2018 in a statement credited to him telling Nigerians not to blame the government for the non-availability of electricity in the country.

Many have attacked the Minister who was the former Governor of Lagos state as a result of the statements credited to him in the past during the last regime of Goodluck Jonathan and also for the promises of the current APC administration prior to the 2015 General election that brought them into power.

The vote out PDP if you want uninterrupted electricity statement which he made at the Blue Roof, Lagos Television premises during his 2,600 days in office ceremony on 11 July 2014 is still fresh in the minds of many.

Do you Know?

In 2014 during the campaign for the 2015 election, 12th November to be precise. Fashola was quoted as “a serious Government will fix power problem in six months” however he has since denied saying so.

One May ask what happened to the October 2017 promise of 20,000megatss of electricity over the next four years that was said to be on course as promised by the Minister of State for Power, ALHAJI Mustapha SHEHURI during the supply of transformer to local governments in Kastina SOUTH.

What has happened to the November 2017 N701 BILLION loan to the Power sector which Fashola said was to save the sector. So the government can give money to improve the power sector but we can’t blame the same sector after the money was given.

Recall that on April 2016 Fashola encouraged Nigerians to go with new tariff plans as it is part of the price we must pay to get good electricity supply.

Nigerians have been paying the price in anticipation for the improved electricity supply but the anticipation have been called short by the man who encouraged them to pay.

On June 10th 2016 if we can recall around 6:57 am the televising of the speech of Fashola on Channels Television where he claimed that we have darkness because we have incompetent people managing our economy.

Wednesday statement is however not surprise because earlier on Thursday, October 18, 2018 Fashola started shooting himself on the leg during the inauguration of the 2x100MVA,132/33KV power transformers at the Ejigbo Transmission Substation, Lagos where he said it takes some magic to fix Nigeria’s electricity sector overnight.

The same sector he claimed can be fixed within months by a responsible government. Could it be that the current government is not a responsible one? Too many questions begging for answers.

The statement of Mr. Fashola could not have received wide condemnation if not for his statements against the previous government as many thought he got the magic from the way he ran down the previous administration.

It is a lesson to both the electorates and the aspirants. We must ask many questions before electing people who run down every government in power without any good idea to fix the issue.

The steady denial of statement shows the important of electoral debates to curb the trending steady denial of promises by government officials.
