UCHE NWOSU WILL SUCCEED ME.
The incumbent governor of Imo State, his excellency Gov. Rochas Okorocha, has expressed his clear wish to pass the baton to his chief of staff, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu at the expiration of his two tenures (eight years) of ruling.
According to the statement made by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, revealed why he is throwing his weight behind his Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu to succeed him as governor of the state in 2019.
Governor Rochas Okorocha in this context has made his claims about his revelation. The hardworking politician asserted that in a bid to avoid being missed by people of the state on some of his landmark achievements, especially his free and qualitative education programme, he has chosen Ugwumba Uche Nwosu to consolidate on the projects.
Governor Okorocha also said that the free education programme in the state, which some of his opponents had tried to discredit when it was introduced, has yielded obvious remarkable results.
He maintained that aside the school enrollment in the state snowballing from 381,000 in 2011 to more than One million in 2017, the state has continued to lead in JAMB applications for the seventh time
- Fourth Reason
Buttressing his choice of Uche Nwosu, Okorocha disclosed that the state has also continued to do well in West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams, emphasizing on the 2018 Senior School Certificate Exam (SSCE), which the state came fifth out of the thirty-six states in the country .
It has said to be an un-challenging remark that the whole achievements of Governor Rochas Okorocha in less than eight years are more than the achievements of his all his predecessors, put together.
REACTIONS SO FAR;
To many, the idea of Gov. Rochas Okorocha kicks off Democracy as it seems not to be government of the people, by the people and for the people, but Family Government. The whole scenario seems monarchical in nature.
Opening the flower more, others thought, ‘Couldn’t it be an avenue or a calculated ploy to cover up for his excesses?” On a second thought, ‘ If his reasons for choosing his successor is to consolidate his projects, and to prevents Imolites from missing him, won’t this lead to ad infinitum as his successor would also wish to do the same.
Moving ahead, many noted that the free education project constitutes the hallmark and landmark of his administration. It is also a fact that non of his predecessors has actualized such project. But It is also an undeniable fact that there are other projects that are left haphazardly and most students have noted that even the concept of Free Education is not authentically free.
Most people have alleged that there are some fallacies behind the comparison as put by the revelation that ‘his (Gov. Okorocha) predecessors put together have not not reached his achievements. Is this not exaggerated? Recall the invaluable contributions of the former Governor, Chief Sam Mbakwe. Is there really a basis for comparison?
Furthermore, doesn’t the snowballing of the Jamb Applicants continuously increase the number of graduates in the labour market? And won’t this require enough job opportunities for the millions of graduates produced every year in Imo State? If so, is it not advisable to put into consideration job opportunities for the graduates most especially now that there is no befitting jobs for them in the state?
Nevertheless, others also acclaimed that ‘UNEASY LIES THE HEAD THAT WEARS THE CROWN’. Having led the State for close to a decade, there is a high tendency that he (Gov. Okorocha) should be more experienced as to who to hand the over the baton to consolidate on his projects. After all, a bad successor is a disgrace to the efforts of his predecessor.
The onus yet lies with us the democrats to still elect who will be the next Governor of the state.
