THE DANGERS OF PRESERVING BEANS WITH SNIPER:

THE NEED FOR PUBLIC AWARENESS.

Recently the news about beans preservation with sniper broke out, many who had access to the new media saw the news and condemned the act.
Sniper as we know contains Dichlorvos which is used on crops, animals, and in pest-strips. Acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) exposures of humans to dichlorvos results in the inhibition of an enzyme, acetylcholinesterase, with neurotoxic effects which includes perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, and at high concentrations, convulsions, and coma.

Condemnation is a good approach but stopping at that will be harmful to the society as many are not aware of the dangers of this. There is need for all hands to be on deck on the issue. waiting for government agencies alone will do us no good as they will end up with the promises of sensitizing and will end up doing little or nothing while our people get harmed by the bad effect of consuming crops preserved with sniper.

Public health should be a concern to all because it affects us directly or indirectly. Many who engage in the act of preserving consumable crops with insecticide are ignorant of the bad effect as such should be sensitized. Many who consume such crops do not know the bad effect and many do not know that crops are preserved with insecticide as such we all should try as much as possible to educate one another on the issue.

Government and non Government agencies should as a matter of urgency organize sensitization programs to educate both the sellers and consumers about the bad effect of this to our health and such programs should also get to the rural dwellers who know little or nothing about the bad effect of preserving crops with sniper.
God bless Nigeria.
